I'd recommend anything and everything 1986-the Fall of Metropolis. That is the best of the best. After that, it's good, but not great, until about '97 or so when things really went south. There are still some good short things but the "big" storylines were nothing like they were in the early 90's. Of those however, Dead Again wasn't too bad, the Death of Clark Kent was good overall, and the Trial of Superman had some high points, but not real memorable. Get the wedding album, but the honeymoon isn't overly exciting. Avoid King of the World, anything with Dominus, Electro-Supes, and The Millennium Giants. The last Jurgens/Epting issues of Superman before Loeb took over were good. And even the new bunch who took over Jurgens and Co. were pretty good up to Emperor Joker. That storyline was fair, but about on the level with Dead Again or the Death of Clark Kent in my opinion. After that things became more hit or miss until they all fell apart with Our Worlds at Bore, er, War. In my opinion, the books are only now showing a few signs of life again, but are still weighed down by less than inspired stories and art, and that awful, awful, B13 Metropolis. Give me the classic look of the city any day. That place had character!

so far, I've read three recommended kelly issues, action 764, 768 and 783. I loved 764, 768 piqued my interest and 783 had me a little lost. I understood the feeling the issue was reaching for, but not the why.

I am currently searching for some more issues between 86 and 93. you're the first to mention the fall of metropolis storyline. when did that occur?
